The T Project runs the only shelter for homeless transgender women in Singapore. Beginning in 2014 with a small space at the attic of a shop house shared with another NGO, it has now expanded its scope of services (thanks to the kind support of individual donors) to better serve the transgender community.

Introduction

The Alicia Project SG Ltd is the first and only trans-focused community service in Singapore.

Founded in 2014, The Alicia Project SG Ltd now has The T Project, a homeless shelter, which provides a safe haven for the homeless in the community while they seek employment, healthcare, and more permanent accommodations.

We work with hospitals, social workers, and government organisations, to support better services and care for the community. Our mission is to support Singapore's transgender community through providing a safe space and social service, allowing them to live their fairy tale life.

Mission

Our mission is to support and make a positive impact on the transgender community, enabling them to lead more dignified and fulfilling lives.

Programs

We only offer a temporary accommodation duration of up to a maximum of 6 months. Any extension is subject to a review by The T Project and with the recommendation of a social worker. In addition to accommodation, the shelter will provide every resident with onsite social work intervention to address their needs and achieve stable and long-term housing.

This will include services for managing mental health issues, addiction issues, financial and housing issues. The shelter manager will provide the necessary support for each resident to rebuild their lives and prepare for when they exit the shelter.

Referral Process for Social Workers
Kindly fill up the attached application form and social report and send it back to us at contact@thetprojectsg.org. Please select 'Allkin Transitional Shelter (Jalan Bukit Merah)' under the 'Name of Transitional Shelter'. You may use your own social report template, however, do include all the information requested in the given template.

Any agency who refers their clients to the programs and/or services of The T Project, are required to use their client's preferred name and preferred pronouns on all supporting documents, regardless of the gender marker stated on their NRIC. Please use consistent pronouns throughout your application form and social report, e.g., she/her for transgender females. Lastly, do note that the whole intake process may take up to or more than a month.

Target Clientele
Any person who identifies as transgender (21 years and above) and is a citizen or permanent resident of Singapore, who has exhausted all other means of accommodation, and is facing financial difficulties. Homeless individuals admitted into the shelter must be able to live independently and are suited for communal living in the community, within the shelter environment. They should not require supervision akin to a residential home for individuals with care needs.

  • We have a guide on application matters and rules at the shelter. You may access the guidebook for more information as well.

  • Thank you very much for your interest in The T Project. The shelter is only open to staff for the safety and privacy of the residents. You are more than welcome to visit us at the Alicia Community Centre to learn more about what we do and the community we work to serve. If you would like to donate or volunteer, please refer to how you can support us and our work at The T Project.

  • Couples may be admitted to the shelter, however, as a shelter for individuals, lodging is subject to bed space availability. Couples will not be given priority to be roomed together. Shelter stay will involve co-sharing of the designated shelter unit with other residents.

  • Pets are strictly not allowed at the shelter units.

  • Currently, there is no air-conditioning or Wi-Fi at the shelter units. Residents may use their own data services, and basic furnishings are provided for use (bed, mattress, locker, fans, cooking utensils, washing machine, water heater).

  • Payment of shelter fees and co-sharing of utility costs is required on a monthly basis.
