For decades, Singapore has not had any HIV-specific research or services for the transgender community. The T Project is really proud to be a part of the community blueprint to end HIV-transmission and AIDS in Singapore by 2030.
We identified that the knowledge and outreach efforts does not effectively reach the local trans community. As a result, very few get tested and seek treatment. Even though there is no official census on the trans population in Singapore, we conservatively estimate that there are over 15,000 transgender persons. That means treating 150 transgender patients a year makes up less than 1% of the total population.
As part of our continuous effort to support the transgender community in Singapore, we will create more awareness and access to HIV prevention and treatment resources. With more support from service providers and the public, we will be able to reach more than just 1% of the total transgender population in Singapore.
